Default Oil Pressure

Well i own a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.2 and i am having a problem with my oil pressure gage.

Ok this is what happens,

In the mourning i start my truck and the oil pressure reads about 35. I will drive off to work and once the truck is warmed up the oil obviously thins out. So after it has warmed up, if i make a complete stop the oil gage goes to 0 and the check gage light comes on... But when i move just a little it will jump back up to 35 again... I have asked a few people i know that have dodges and they say it is the Oil Pressure switch and others say its the oil pressure sender... Is this the same piece and if so where can i get one? Is it hard to change and where is it located at on the block? Has anyone else had the same problem?

Any info or advice appreciated... Thanks

Big D

The switch and sender are the same thing. I would say this is most likely what is wrong. I'm not sure where it is located but if my memory is correct, I believe I saw something posted one time about it being on the rear of the engine. Hopefully someone else here can confirm that for you. And welcome to DF.

Thanks and do you know if this is a major thing and if i need to replace it asap or can it wait a week or so because i have it on order from the autoparts store and it will take about 4 days to get here... But ime not hearing any knocking or clanging from the motor so i think i should be fine until the part comes in...

If you are not hearing any difference in the sound of the engine, I would say you are safe. I would still say replace asap. But you should be ok until you can do so.

It is at the rear of the engine on the passenger side of the distributor.
Most parts store stock them and there is a special socket that makes it easier to change.
