Shifting from 2nd to 3rd and immediately back to 2nd
I've been searching but haven't found the solution so I'm going to post this. I have a 1999 Dodge 1500 4x4 that has 130,000 miles on it, auto trans. I bought it a few weeks ago. The transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago. The guy I bought it from said it started a month or so after he had it rebuilt and he went back and they told him it was no big deal that these transmissions were junk anyway. When you take off it goes from 1st to 2nd then 3rd then immediately back to 2nd then proceeds to go back to 3rd and is alright after that. I have it in the shop right now and he replaced all the solenoids but that didn't fix it. The guy says everything else looks good. He wants to replace a spring and see if that fixes it but I'm looking for opinions before spending a bunch of money. Has anyone else had this problem and do you have the solution?
Welcome to the forums.
Are you sure you aren't feeling the torque converter kicking in/out in there some place, and mistaking that for a shift?
If you are sure, than no, that is not normal, and if the tranny shop says "no big deal, they're junk anyway", never go back there ever again. The 46RE, when rebuilt properly, is an awesome transmission. Take it to another shop, but do your research. Good transmission shops are few and far between.

It's at a new shop. That's what the shop that did the initial rebuild told the previous owner 2 years ago and he was too dumb to believe anything else. It is definitely shifting back into 2nd instead of staying in 3rd. It's been doing in since he had it but he thought it was normal. I was just hoping someone else might have had the same problem and knew of a solution.
