Default rear main seal

so i switch to sythetic about 3000 miles ago and i noticed my rear main seal is leaking, so its about time to do the oil change and i was wondering how difficult it is to swap the rear main seal? ive heard it is a two piece which is easier than a 1 piece but not sure. its a 2001 5.2L auto trans

its def. 2 piece and from my readings not dificult to do but time consuming.....

Click on that link and then click the "tech" tab at the top. look for rear main seal replacement. It'll take you at least six hours.

You'll want 2X 10" extensions and one 4" extension for a 1/2" socket drive to help get the top starter bolt off the starter.

I suggest swapping out the oil pump as the article does, it's a cheap item and easy to do when you are undertaking this procedure. You don't wanna have to go back in there if you don't have to.

It is a fairly straight forward job. Your 2" lift should make it easier to get the oil pan off. I replaced my fathers and it took about 5hrs. Just don't ever offer to do the same on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. That took me two days. I pretty much had to remove the front axle and remove the exhaust just to get the oil pan off. I agree with replacing the oil pump and pickup tube. Although on that same GC when I replaced the oil pump, the new oil pump was defective causing me to spend another day doing the job all over again.
