Default On my way to work...

I was on my way to work this morning when my rear U joint broke leaving me on the side of he highway. I crawled under the truck for a look and found no obvious damage so i pulled the rear shaft put it in 4WD and took off. While driving the the truck would rev like it was slipping out of gear. I had to stop about every 4-500 feet and put the truck into park move the tranfer case back in 2WD then shift it back to 4WD and move another 4-500 feet and do it over again. I have no idea where to start looking for the problem. Anyone ever had a problem with the front axle not staying engaged?

Sure have:

The vacuum disconnect system on these trucks is garbage. You have either a defective vacuum motor, vacuum switch or a vacuum leak in the system somewhere.

does posi-lok make both front wheel lock up? i know its a way to bypass the vacuum actuator, but Posi means both tires right? if so this might be a good investment for me...

but yea that sucks, and i havent heard of them slipping out of 4wd.

nope, posi lock just makes the shift fork keep the collar on the passenger axle shaft. meaning that 4x4 will stay engaged. you will still have an open differential.

now i found that when my tranny was rebuilt, its now open diffs front and rear. if i put and LSD in it, will it make the front limited slip as well?

not tryin to steal the thread, just better than creating a thread since we are on the topic

The "Posi" in the name of this product refers to its ability to give you Positive engagement of the axle disconnect system. No more guessing if it is engaged or wondering if it is holding engagement during operation. It does not have anything to do with the traction ability of your front end and does not touch any components in the differential. It is a simple cable device that eliminates all the failure-prone vacuum operated components in the CAD system. Simple as that.
