Hey guys, i'm new here. I have a 97 ram extended cab and the back speakers are blown. There doesn't really seem like anyway to get to them without cutting a hole in the plastic around the speaker or taking half the truck apart. Any ideas?

 

the plastic piece has a couple screws and it pops out...

no its not hard at all. i actually didnt know i had rear speakers lol, i just found them and took the plastic off. its easy. i have 2 6 1/2 inch speakers wired up in a box as well as my sub back there...i wonder if i can get all 6 speakers working??

 

Well, the OP's is an extended cab. Which I'm sure is a little different than what those of us with a regular cab have. Although I'm sure the panels are not very hard to remove, maybe it's better to wait and see what someone with that style cab says.

 

I have the extended cab and have looked at my back speakers but never took the plastic actually off but it looks like its mostly clips that hold it on but don't quote me on that. There are 2 screws in the finger holder thingy under the window. lol the thing you use to close the door.

 

i have the xtended cab too and i took off my plastic panels to get to my rear speakers, just to screws and it pops right off

It's not as easy as they say! You have to first take the rear seat out (you will see the four bolts on each side when you move the seat bottom up). The cowl trim also covers up part of the panel, it is held by five Phillips head screws. That trim is at the edge of the cab, under the door when it's closed, and where you probably put your feet to get in. It should also be removed before you try to take out the trim panel. Then, there are about eight Phillips screws in the panel that must be taken out before you can remove the trim panel. Everywhere with a hole should have a screw in it. The seatbelts are also held in by torx-head screws and stop the panel from being completely removed. You might not have to take them out if you're just changing the speakers, but more room is good. Next, you have to take it out by hand, remember that there is a retaining clip at the top-middle, right above the window, just pull straight out. Oh, and be careful not to poke a hole in your headliner with the retaining clip, it can be pretty easy to do.

This is actually very easy, just be careful with the panel, it is pretty flexible but can break. Also make sure not to mix up any screws.
