Default Question RE:Front shock lower mount

Is the nut on the lower shock welded to the arm? Should I use a socket on the Head Hex bolt w/Breaker bar or is the nut free where I would need a back up wrench on it. Plus is it true I need to take off the top tower to get the top mounting nut off?
Dodge Ram 1500 2wheel drive 5.2eng quad cab
Thanx in advance

no, its not welded.
the lower shock has a bolt that on the front side. its torqued at about 110#, so bring a breaker bar.
the nut on the back side is called a flag nut, where it has about a 2 inch welded on tab. it will catch in a slot at the bottom or side. you don't need a wench on this.

you do need to remove the top shock tower, in order to get the shock in and out of the cavity. also remove the nut on the top of the stud. tip. jack up the frame to extend the shock, so the shock is not pushing up on the tower while your trying to remove it.
