Default steering? help any ideas..

ok so today i was turning right not hard or gasin it or anything and about mid turn a pop noise came from the front end and i could feel a lil bit of like grinding type deal and my steering wheel locked up and i had to rip it left really hard and it unlocked??????? any ideas on what that could b? thank guys

Be nice to know if it's 4wd or not.Sounds like it is, but I for one am not guessing.

Front Diff. bad? do you have an axle seal leak? How uch fluid is in front diff?

possibly your steering box. It has gears inside of it and you may have stripped some gears and that is what the grinding noise was. and maybe some metal got stuck and when you jerked it left you may have freed it up. Not 1000% sure just an idea.

ok cool thanks guys and there no fluid leaking from anywhere or any signs un the truck that anything was leaking or anything like that i thought maybe the steering box posible but wasnt sure just wanted to hear so thoughts on it b4 i go buy **** or have it looked at and hear a buncha BS from a shop and have them try to rape me lol
