I broke the housing on my cad and I took it apart to install new one but I forgot what way the fork faced. Does anyone know where to get a picture? I got the vac hoses diagramed but it never occurred to get a pic of the fork . Sleeping I guess

"The shift fork offset should be toward the differential."
From the FSM. Download one from the FAQ/DIY section for your truck, they're handy to have.

Thanks for the reply .The info about the fsm is especially appreciated. It can eliminate lots of wasted time searching threads and reading. Thanks so much I'll be studying it often. It is represented in the 2001 manual for my 98 4x4 .

I put it together and it shifts ok .The thing is when it goes into 4 L it shifts with a hard thump and some grinding . It wasn't like that before I broke the vac disconnect cover. I also had the drivers side axel shaft out at the same time to put ball joints in. I wonder if that could be the reason it is so loud now where as it was not before.

After putting it back together, it is as you said .It looks like it wouldn't go together offset to other side. I guess I leaped before I looked closely. It's together and operating fine
