the computer likely put it in "limp home mode"....meaning you only had first gear...mine did it right after I bought it only I had 1741 code...(gov pressure soleniod and transducer) changed them and reset computer and all was well again...you could try to reset your computers codes and see if it behaves differently...it might give you a better indication if its just the soleniod as it may function again for a short time ruling out(or being less likely) a bad tcc....
btw you never even said if its a stick or auto?...I'm assuming auto but you said it kept popping out of gear? only sticks can do that.

I had the same issues but it wasn't the tranny. My catalytic converter was so plugged up, the truck wouldn't stay in any gear, it would slip out of gear and when warm, it wouldn't even rev up when driving.

check the wire harness running from the outside of the tranny to the presusre solenoids. I had tranny fluid get into the harness clips and give me alot of CEL problems.
