.....you have to for thats the wy the axle you put in is set up. 4x4 and 4x2 is different suspension up front, so putting on a 4x4 axle would need the 4x4 parts to have it bolt up.

Make a 2x4 into a 4x4 without doing anything electrical? LOL.
I thought The D40 that you would probably be installing(off a 4x4 2nd gen ram) uses a CAD on the axle itself to engage. Oh yeah, what about the T-Case, driveshaft, ENTIRE FRONT SUSPENSION and mounts, cutting the floorboards to install levers, ELECTRICAL for CAD on/off, new vacume lines, etc.

Just needs the front axle? EEeeeh....

Sell your truck, and get the same one in a 4x4. I know, everyone says they like their vehicle... But after I changed my 98 for an 02, never wanted to go back. After I changed my last V6 camaro for a camaro SS with an LS1, never would go back. Etc.

Then you would have a Fiat Panda?

How do you swap the 4x4 components without swapping the suspension? The 4x4's are solid axle, whereas the 4x2's have arms...

I sense inbreeding is at play here..

I've thought about doing the same to mine. I've done 2wd to 4wd conversion on two toyotas and a v8 swap 2wd to 4wd swap on a toy and a ranger. I didn't spend a lot, but I have access to a junk yard at little to no cost for parts. And, except for the ranger these were all off road only rides that I built for other people. I'll probably just do the swap on a toyota I have out back and use my Dodge to tow it!

hahaha!! no offense taking. it was kinda funny. but this is what happens when you give an import driver an american truck
and i've been reading a few 2wd-->4wd threads so i had pretty much written off the project. but a friend of mine(who has owned a chevy truck for 8yrs) keeps trying to convenience me that all i had to do was throw the mech parts on. so i thought i'd ask
