Question Leaking Shraeder Port

Hey,

I have been dealing with my 00 Ram w/360 taking 5-10 sec of cranking to fire up after sitting over night/more than 20 min. The other night, for some reason, I popped the cap off the shraeder port (I think thats what its called...the test port on the fuel rail) and I could see it bubbling gas out kind of like a leaking valve stem. Whats the fix for this? Can I replace the valve thats in it? I tried to tighten it with a valve core removal tool, but Im afraid of stripping it out.

Please help! Thanks!

i would assume its replaceable. not sure - but possibly a dealer only item.

so bump to the top.

No one has had this happen? It was losing pressure quick enough while not running, that I would think it could be my starting issue...

I agree. I did some webcrawling, but haven't come across replacements for fuel systems only A/C. Don't know if they are the same... Might try talking to some of your local parts houses. I can't imagine shops not running into this.

In case anyone wanted to know...called the Dodge dealer, and they said it is replaceable, and the core (same concept of a valve stem core) is $3. Its definately worth a try!

Well, I havent gotten into town yet, and have no part number. But, when i called the guy said "let me go look in the drawer" like it is a universal part for fuel rails. And the port is called the shraeder port. Hope this helps!

Schrader valve
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schrader valve (also called American valve)[1] invented by August Schrader in 1891[2] consists of a valve stem into which a valve core is threaded, and is used on nearly all automobile tires and most wider rimmed bicycle tires. The valve core is a poppet valve assisted by a spring

interesting topic... I think I'll take a look at mine as well.. I noticed after sitting a few days it turns over fine but sometimes stumbles a bit to get going.. nothing major but maybe this could be my problems
