Default factory camshaft replacement

Ok motor is bad in my 318 1500. So I was gonna find a used 360 and drop it in.

Got to thinking that if I could rebuild the motor I already had for not a whole lot more money I could upgrade it and have a rebuilt motor instead of just another used motor.

My question is it is cheaper if I rebuild my motor with a master kit without a camshaft and go to the 1.7 RR. My thing is if I replace the cam bearings is there a "reason" to replace the stock camshaft? I will if necessary but would save a chunk of money if the stock one will be fine because if I replace it I would probably stay with a stock one anyway as to not have to mess with the computer.

Thoughts????????????

IMHO i would get a 360 and build that up, theres WAY more options for the 360 over the 318. is the 318 running still? or is it completly gone? i was gunna say if you can make the motor last you a lttle lnger id get the 360 and build that.

this is the best place for getting the parts you need...in my opinion

yeah it is just getting confusing as to if I want to build it up or just drop it in rebuild my 318 or what. This is a project truck so I got plenty of time just trying not to get discouraged.

you wont be able to get a 318 up to the potential of a 360, but if you do a 318 rebuild, get a stroker kit for it.

a set of 88 heads won't work on an 01 i don't think. No matter what you do its gonna cost money. trying to be "cheap" never lasts when rebuilding an engine trust me

Why is your 318 bad? Did it blow up? Might be a cheap fix for it.

Well I am not trying to be "cheap" for sure, but best bang for the buck is completly different.

Engine needs a rebuild so I am trying to decide if I am just gonna drop in a used 360 or get a 360 and build up a little or just rebuild the 318. Leaning towards getting a good running used 360 and beefing it up a little..............or I found an 8.0 488 I could try and cram in there?????????????

Among other things, the 8.0 will not bolt up to your existing tranny.
