1 for function....more clearence equals more offroad ability and usually more flexable/capably suspension underneath...

2 looks....many like the look of it.look at all the 2wd trucks with lifts out there...same as dropped trucks...just like racing strip on a pickup truck...You could argue doesnt really belong there since pickups werent designed to be a performance vehicle..... Bottom line to each his own it all has purpose to the owner, frivolous or not.

do some people add lifts for attention? yes do all? no.... then again, others find different ways of trying to get that attention like painting their grill red?

Why do egos always screw up threads on this stuff.... cant people at least try to be a little open minded here?....
after all we all do stuff to our trucks to make them OURS not what someone else likes...

mine is a 2.5" HBS coil spacer and Tuff Country 2" add a leafs and it is much better than stock height. now my tires don't rub the fender in a bumpy full lock turn.

one thing to think about with tires size is that 33" tires are much cheaper than 35" tires. and if you spend 80% of your time on the pavement then you won't want to have to replace 35" tires often.

BFG a/t is my favorite tire too. decent grip off road and good handling on the pavement and in rain. and they're tough as nails.

Uh... Lifts don't provide more clearance. Larger tires do.

My buddy had 35's on his Stock Bronco and it had a grip of clearance. I have 33's on my Ram and it has just as much clearance as the comperable 4x4 Ram with the same sized tires. More actually, no pumpkin hanging down in the front!

a lift will give the body more clearance. if you're just dragging the axles through the mud instead of the bumpers and transmission mount then you'll have a better chance of getting through it.

also if you're on rough terrain then you will be able to keep your body from getting banged up if you're lifted.

so what do you have against a lift? did you have a bad experience with a lifted truck?

Suspension > Body. All lifting the body does is create a wonderful rollovermobile. It raises the center of gravity of the vehicle.

If lifting keeps the vehicle from getting damaged, Why is it that offroad racers keep their trucks as low as possible then? A co-worker of mine has a beamed Ranger, 23 inches of travel up front. It sits only a touch higher than my Ram, and it has 35's. The KORE Ram that ran at Primm sits about 4 inches higher than a stock 4x4 Ram, also on 35's.

What I have against lifts is that they are the equivalent of redneck rice IMO. They look ridiculous and provide no functionality whatsoever. JUst a bunch of spacers, long bolts and shocks, and when you get really fancy, gawdy looking subframe drops.

We can all be more open minded. You should develop a sense of humor. It was a joke. As for the grille, its Hemi Orange.

Well, you are looking at this at a different picture. I'm guessing that you live out in the southwest, where desert racing is big. Most owners on this forum live in the mid-west and east coast where mudding is big. Two different sports. Desert racers want it low to the ground so they can have less wind resistance to go faster and a low suspension so when they go over big jumps they have more travel to soak up the bumps. Mudders want a truck that is lifted way up high so there is less mud dragging on the frame and body so they do not get stuck.

Telling someone that lifting or lowering their truck is dumb is like trying to get a someone who drinks only Pepsi to drink Coke. Its all about personal preference.

[quote=011500Ram;1899326]Uh... Lifts don't provide more clearance. Larger tires do.

a suspension lift will provide more ground clearance for everything but the axles

that's where larger tires come into play

for example, my truck has a 2 inch coilspacer and an AAL and 32 inch tires, if it was stock, there would be no way in hell i could use it for certain tasks at work

what did we learn? Lifts are good

come on really?....Lift equals the ability to run larger tires and also gives more clearence between said tires and fenders/body frame..so the suspension can have more travel and be more effective without being restricted by hitting the body/frame...I wasnt talking about clearence from the axle to the road but it does effect that also like mentioned above.
and like purp said above...offroading around here is more of a slower moving mudding or rock crawling thing....(lifts and rocker guards come in very handy for rock climbing)
To each his own.....their are people that see our trucks as enviromentally unfriendly and in most cases unnecessary gas guzzling beasts too....and their logic probably more sound than your theroy about redneck rice I guess....but the great thing about this country is the freedom that allows us both to express our thoughts and let the people we are expressing to tell us if where nuts or not ....
and purp what indication did you give that you were joking? cause I dont see any....not a big deal I was trying to keep it light while still making the point that its all preference....you just took it to seriously....
