Dodge Ram - NV3500 5-Speed transmission
Hello,
I have a 1997 Dodge Ram with a New Venture 3500 transmission. Currently I have 33"x12.5" Tires on the truck and from what I have been told this tires size has been ran on the truck for nearly the life of the truck. After reading a few posts here and there I have concluded that the 33" tires have probably put a lot of stress on the tranny. I also noticed that it can be "doggy" sometimes when I shift it. Other posts I have read recommend a rear end gear change to 4.56. what are your thoughts? Should I be worried about a tranny rebuild in the future (156,000miles)?

i have the tranny. i had 265 tires when i got, i know still smaller but even then the tranny was doggy as you say. I recomend gettin 4:10 gears if you wanna keep your tires and itll increase towing. or bump down to some 245's. itll get better mpg to, but if your not worried bout that then id recomend some 4:10's.
but to actually answer your question, unless it was abused and badly driven i think the tranny should be fine. these are some really strong and tough tranny's. dodge has it's rep for bad tranny's, in automatic, but the NV3500 is one of the good trannys
