Unhappy 1997 Ram V6 to V8 swap issues

Hello to all dodge ram fans out there. I joined this forum because i have a sick truck that needs some help. It is a 1997 Ram Sport 1500 2wheel drive. it came with a 3.9v6 engine and automatic tranny. The engine has been replaced with a 5.2 v-8 by the previous owner. I finnaly got around to having a tranny mechanic check it out and he said there is a wiring harness that has been completely cut-off from the transmission.!!! As far as I know the tranny was the original one that came with the truck. Is that even possible? The mechanic said he can't road test the tranny because the engine is not able to perform well enough for him to conduct a test. Anyhow the transmission goes into gear with alot of lag and tends to rev up high before any engagement. I'm assuming that if a v-6 to v8 conversion happened that a computer change would have had to have happened to run right??? How many wiring harnesses are critical to engine/tranny operation??? There are lots of people telling me I'd be better off scapping the truck but I like it too much. I have a line on a low mileage 1998 5.2motor tranny combo with wiring and computer out of a full size extenda-cab 2 wheel drive truck. would I be better to just do a full swap and forget trying to solve it another way? Anyhow I could use some good advice or tips on tricking this truck back to life.

how is the fluid level? and do you have a picture of the wire that got cut off?

low fluid will make the engine rev high before engagement.

First question do you have the ability to do the work yourself? If not run from that project
you dont know the condition of the trans or motor and are unsure what its going to take to get it going, that is a bad bad combonation.
