and this started only after alternator died ? otherwise it was fine before hand.
sounds like it might be a problem within the ASD (automatic shutdown) system. it generally gives you fuel pressure at ignition on, so it will start, and then if it doesn't get the proper crank position sensor signals and cam position sensors, which indicates the engine is running, then it cuts off the fuel pump.
sounds like your fuel pump is not priming at start. you might begin with a pressure test at the fuel rail for 49psi, or research the electrical side more....
