1996 will not downshift to 1st on its own

i have 1996 1500 king cab with 5.9 when i come to a stop i have to manually put tranny into 1st gear. otherwise it will take off in second gear. please someone help. just bought truck 3 days ago. i had the transmission flushed and 1 solenoid changed.
