Default 2002..2nd Gen or 3rd?

Curious.
Been following the 3rd gen footsteps as far as info, but seems as it doesnt all apply to el trucko that I have (5.9 mag). Body looks the same? Ive seen 2002 trucks with the same look as the typical 2nd gen also. Hmm...What are the differences? I was looking at intakes for my truck and saw I cant use the same parts all the time as the other 2nd gens, so I look at the 3rd gens for exhaust mufflers and I buy one that is too large (in/outlets) for my truck and should have looked under 2nd....

You have an "oddball" or "hybrid" Gen truck.

In 2002 when DC went to the 3rd gen body style, the 5.7L hemi wasn't ready for production and DC had a surplus of 5.9L mag motors from the 2nd gen line. The 5.2L was replaced by the 4.7L, but the 5.9 remained in production. The larger 5.9 offering even dribbled into a few 2003 models before the stock was depleted. I believe the 46RE trans was paired with those 5.9L engines, but consult your truck's build sheet to be certain.

For anything engine, trans, and driveline related, you're probably better looking in the 2nd gen forum. That would probably include exhaust as well, since the exhaust manifolds have to match the heads and block.

For body styling stuff like headlights, taillights, interior trim, tonneau covers, etc., poke around the 3rd Gen forum.

The 2002 2500 is 2nd Generation. Just the 1500 made the leap that year.

True of the 2002 3500, as well. All Rams weren't 3rd gen until the 2003 model year.

I thought by the OP's question that 1500 was obviously implied.

Such sticklers around here...

Maybe if he had filled out his profile info...

If he has a 2002 that looks like a 2nd gen then it has to be a 2500 LD since it has a V8 Magnum engine. Nothing 3rd gen about it.

I like to bug people in both, and I think you're right about the 46RE, that's what mine's got.

Or maybe you were not so blind.
