Need Help...ASAP
Ok, here I go. I am having serious trans problems. 5" lift w/ 35" PJ Dirt Grips, 1500, 5.9 w/ Hypertech PP, Fastman TB, flowmaster 40 single in dual out exhaust, and a K&N FIPK... Thats about my entire mod list...
It initially started as disengagement of OD about 4-5 months after i got the lift and tires. It was very intermittent. It would disengage and I would park the truck for a little while and it would come back on when I started it back up, and wouldn't happend again for a few days. Then the CEL came on, code 1470(or 1740...i can't remember old age/dislexia its hard sometimes...lol) which is the trans control/OD clutch code. Then the Trans Temp light came on one day and I did not drive the truck for almost a month, because i was busy and didn't have the money to fix it. I took it to a trans shop, they said my torque conv was shot and the trans needed a general rebuild. I thought, well I was planning on getting the trans rebuilt anyhow, just not quite yet. (Its got 65K on it, and its been a while since the trans had been serviced) So they "fix" the problem and rebuild the trans. I get it back, and not even a week goes by and the light comes back on. No OD disengagement or anything so I take it back, and they said that a connector was lose and its fixed. Get it back, few days later same scenario. This point I'm a little irritated so I take it back and he says they can't find anything wrong and that he'll check the service bulletins. Few weeks later the OD disengages again, and then the trans temp gauge was quick to follow. I take it back and he said he checked the bulletins and found a fix for towing applications that might help, that is a simple plate to add to the valve body. So he does that and on my way home from picking it up the OD disengages AGAIN! Its now back at the shop, I talked to him today he said the torque converter is being replaced again and he is blaming it all on my tires. Could this be my problem? Has anyone ever experienced these symptoms as a result of larger diam tires? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Any questions let me know... and I apologize for the length.

I have a 2000 5.9 SLT quad Cab with 265 75 16 Coopers on it. I went to get bigger tires. You have to have the Computer adjusted for the tire size you get or there will most certainly be issues with Drive train. The Fcatory settings will need to be adjusted in other words. I got a qoute for 89$ Not sure if it helps, but if you have not questioned whether or not a reprogram was done yet you may want to tack that on to your diagnosis
