Default ECU question

I bought my 99 Ram 2500 5.9 gas used last summer. I am getting some ABS lights and seatbelt lights on the dash. The PO told me he repalced the ECU with one from a different truck and that is what caused the lights. He was very truthful with everything else so I believe him. Everything worked fine so I never questioned it or cared. This was confirmed from when I had my trranny rebuilt, the mechanic said it had some ABS errors and a VIN mismatch error. Again, not hurting anything other than idiot lighst are on all the time. I had planned on taking it to the dealership and have them reprogram it, problem solved. My local dealership will not touch it. They said there is nothing they can do as far as the VIN mismatch is concerned?? Is this true? Would I have to have the stealership put in a new ECU to resolve this? The only reason I care is I may have trouble with my yearly state inspection due to the idiot lights being on...

Thanks

Ya, dealerships won't do it, not because they can't, but because there are some legality issues that prevent them from doing it. They do other pcm programming changes, but they usually won't touch the vin. B&G can do it though (or at least they used to). They did it on my performance pcm. I bought a used pcm, and shipped it to them to put my tune on, and they vin matched it to my truck. You'll have to mail your pcm to them though.

Ouch $350 for a PCM flash... I'd like to do it to get rid of the stupid lights but I'll put that on the back burner since it does not affect the operation of the vehicle. Thanks for the company name though.

I doubt they would charge that much for just to do the VIN. The $350 gets you a full performance tune.

There has to be a performance shop local to you that can do a cheaper job, considering that can't you get a brand new ECU from Oriely's for like $250????
