Default Changing the gauge cluster color

So I stumbled across this thread that stated that we (ram owners) can change the color of the the gauges by changing the bulb. To be blunt, the guys on this forum that I was reading it on really don't seem like they know what they're saying, which is why I'm asking you guys. I'm considering doing it but need to know if it's possible. Here's the thread:

Isn't there a DIY on the dash lights? Maybe that'll help you out. I would like to have mine red if at all possible......

I think there is a thread but it is with LED's. I would like to just use regular bulbs so you can still dim and have some adjust-ability if need be, I believe there are a few that have converted them over to LED's, maybe they will chime in.

the bulbs that are in there now are white...its not the bulbs that need to be changed, but the gauge face itself. ive changed my bulbs in my cluster...and they are onl white bulbs..(stock) ive tried blue, but with the green face, it doesnt light up very much, so you would need white faces on the gauges if you want to only change the bulb.

That link appears to deal with 4th gen Rams. I took my cluster apart to try this and found that the bulbs were indeed clear and were either soldered to the circuit board or too difficult to replace. Too much work to change them out so I just put it back together and scrapped the idea.

Actually, the link deals with 2nd, 3rd, AND 4th Gen Rams. But I do agree, it seems to time consuming.

thats why when you get the dash kits off ebay etc. they all come with new gauge faces cuz the other one is made to permit green. if you try to use a different color bulb that color has to go through the green face....see what im saying?

Alright glad to get clarification on that, makes sense!

Is it difficult to change the gauge face to the white ones with blue illumination? Such as these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-95...Q5fAccessories

the theory behind this was this:yellow (stock bulb) + blue gauge face (stock) = Green background light. The idea was to put white LED bulbs to make the gauges blue. Look at the link again and read threw it. There's pic's on there too.
