Default Engine runs rough and misses out

1997 ram 1500 4x4 5.2L , 5 spd, replacement engine with approx. 35,000 miles on it.. runs very rough and misses out but will smooth out when maintaining a constant speed . I changed the spark plugs and it didnt help .. it isnt reading any codes for oxygen sensors or anything.. this happened one day out of the blue .. I just hate to chase this problem with new parts that are not needed. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated !!! I hope I gave enough info.. I am thinking the cap and rotor need replaced ??

Thanks
Terry
