Do you have a welder??? Im guessing yes since you want to build it.

BUT if i was you i would call buckstop bumpers and see if they would ever send you the none welded bumper just the metal pieces, They might do a great deal on it since they dont need to do the long labor of building sanding and painting.

Then you could build it yourself and have the right bumper.

Ive never seen anyone do it but i would try. I want to but am in the middle of a project so have no spare money to put into it.

I have never heard of buckstop bumpers until this post, just looked the up and they make some sweet bumpers! I would buy one in a heartbeat, but they are too expensive. I cant see spending $1500 on a bumper for a truck that only cost me $2000.

Build the winch tray and mounting brackets out of 1/4 but not the entire thing. Build the rest with 3/16.

Aubrey is right, mounts should be 1/4, everything else 3/16, 3/16 is overkill itself anything bigger will just weigh your truck down: destroy bearing quicker and worsen your gas mileage. Some people even use 1/8, if you plan on using a winch you need to mount it to the 1/4 mounts.

3/16 is what i use on my bumper builds, and more is just too heavy, and any lighter will warp when welding, and anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 inch brackets, depending on size and options like winch, brushguards, ect. i have built bumpers for my first gen ram, a 3rd gen ram, and 3rd gen dakota, and i have a ruenell on my second gen ram, let me know if you want to see pics
