my 46re (AKA A518) on my 96 5.9L just died startin like a week ago. i took it into the shop two days ago to get rebuilt. it died out at about 82,000 i suppose that's close to the average millage but i guess it dont help that Ive abused it regularly for the last 10,000 mi. let me hear your guys tranny stories.....
yeahh i wanted to beef mine up a little bit but i guess ill just have to do that next time. i wanted to do a higher stall but money is tight for me right now so itll have to wait.
i'm still hoping to salvage my tranny with some fairly inexpensive parts as far as tranny parts are concerned (i.e. governor pressure sensor & solenoid and a tps for the throttle body)
oh yea, and i dont know how many trannies i've gone through, but i've got a 205,000 on the truck...lol
i have close to 200k on mine...It shifts great, fluid looks great...when i got it i changed fluid and filter and all looked good...i have no idea if it has been rebuilt or replaced...
yeahh that reminds me my tranny fluid always smelled fine till just the last week when i checked it it was finally burnt. my tranny has been funny for the last few years but never was like it was. around 15mph if you put about 1/2 to full throttle on it it would rev to three grand and make a rubbing sound. i think the torque converter just quit on me. oh well as long as i get it back and it runs like normal for a long time.
i wish there was a way to tell if mine has a new one, or if it was rebuilt...because like you say just because it shifts good and the fluid looks good dont mean it is perfect.
