Custom floor console- advice
I would recommend some type of quick disconnect latching system. Or maybe mount permanently with a side panel that could be removed for access. I would want to be able to easily remove it to gain full access under the dash. I'm not a fan of self tapping screws myself.
when i mounted my cb bracket to the floorboard i started with a couple of self tapping screws. for something not top heavy it would have been fine, but because my cb mounts vertical, it was sort of top heavy and shaky and i didn't like it. so, i used 1/4 in bolts about 1-1/2 inches or so. when drilling through i found out my 01 floor pan was double walled.
be sure you design your box so that you can remove the components for service, and that they don't overheat. things in the floorboard tend to catch dirt, spilled drinks, etc.

If it were me, I would fab up something to mount to the seat brackets like Jinx said. Reason is, that hump is right over your transmission. I know that ATT used to just screw in consoles to their service trucks on that hump and many times, they stupidly used a long screw and breached the trans. Besides, do you really want to drill holes in your floor?
So I am going to build a floor mounted console next to my 4x4 shift, to hold my cb radio, sirius sat. tuner, and maybe some storage. I have no problem with design and build, but wanted some advice on how to securely attach it to the floor of the truck. I will post up some pics of the build as soon as Im done. Also if anyone else has built one, I would love to see some pics!
