hi i am a new owner of a 1996 1500 4x4 5spd with the 318 5.2 ok i bought the truck and ran it for about a week well then i found head gasket isssues and tore it all apart and found cracked heads so i went out and got a motor now the new motor has an egr and my old one doesnt it is true i can take my intake off my old motor and just switch it right? well also i got looking and my return has a cap over it on my old motor it ran fine like that i wanted to know if its fine to leave it like that and also how do i tell what tranny i have because the front seal seams to be leaking and i was gonna replaice it but autozone has two different 5spd trannys on the thank you for any help ryan

 

Should be able to use the old egr intake with no problem.There should be a sticker under the hood near the latch,that says what your truck came with.

 

yea, when i got my new manifold it was non-egr, and my truck is an egr, so i just blocked off the egr ports, and its fine, no CEL lights either

well i should say it popped on twice when i first got it done...100 miles after the fix...turn it off, turn t on and the CEL is gone, then it came on aother 125 miles later. and now its been 5000 miles since ive done all that and havent had a CEL since the second time it popped on. (the CEL would always shut off when i turned my truck off then right back on)

 

Prolly ok then.

 

Get your vin number(its on your Insurance card) call your local deal and have them print off the build sheet for your truck., it should be free. It will tell you what tranny you have.

or you can look on the sticker (if its still there). when you open your hood, look straight up and there should be a sticker that tells you what tranny came with the truck.

 

Did you read anything after post # 1.Your just a little late with that suggestion.
