Default Question

I have a 97' model Dodge Ram (Cummins). I've began to have a problem with starting it even in moderate temps. It will crank immediately then the engine will die as soon as I let off the key. If I hold the ignition key down for five seconds or more, it will crank. Can anyone explain what the problem is here? There is not too many mechanics I trust around here and the one that did all my work passed away.
Thanks,
Michael

You need to go to the cummins turbo diesel(CTD)section and ask.

Um how is the fuel pressure? Possibly one of your sensors quit not telling the computer the truck has started like a engine speed sensor or something.

I',m wondering if it could be the lift pump going to hell or maybe the injection pump? Also could be your grid heaters. When did you last change the fuel filter?
