Default Help needed with engine wiring?

HI guys,

My girlfriend had his 98 Ram 5.9 for a long time and never had any problem with it except the rattling cat that i've fixed , but never nothing major.

But today we went shopping with the truck and when we came back it wouldnt start , batterie seemed dead, so some guy helped me boost the batterie but to my surprise the wire from the batterie started melting and I stopped boosting it immediately.

I know it could ba a gazilion thing , but anyone ever had that happened. I find strange that everyting was going fine and when we came back in all this appeared at once.

I've looked quickly since it was late and dark outside, left the truck at the mall and will go back tomorow to see whats going on tough.

But if anyone has input that could give me it would be greatlty appreciated

thanks
