The bed may not be double walled or whatever higher up, but the lower portion there is double walled, or at least has an inside part to it as well as the exterior wall. Thats what my body shop's computer diagram showed me, anyway.

Thats exactly where I hit a guard rail, that exact same spot. Mine was a harder hit though, and bent the whole side of the bed. Luckily, I have full coverage... the rear bumper and side panel were about $3500 in parts/labor to replace here.

Default you asked who else.....

Here's my bad luck. first 3 on passenger side are courteousy of a telephone pole when my boot got jammed up under the brake pedal and held on for dear life trying to stay on the road. about 75 k/h. last one is Monday when a tractor trailer backed into me. 3400 bucks to fix it. 13000 to fix the first one.

i put my truck into a toyota last feb. it sustained more damage than the car did (caved in the left rear quarter panel, put the toyota in the median, only a few little dents in it)

i got in behind the panel with a porta power (basically a hand pumped 10 ton hydraulic ram) and was able to push it out, left it a little wrinkled, but i bondoed it and bedlined it, from a distance you cant even tell, you have to be next to it to see it now

Max:

I hit her, some jackass in a blue Prius pulled RIGHT out in front of me, i ripped into the left lane (4 lane highway) and tagged her, if i had not moved, i woulda run that prius over (which i don't care about the prius, but the kids in the back seat...didn't wanna kill them, that kind of thing always haunts you)

nopower:
actually it didn't come out too bad for doing it myself (bondo helps)
