oil pressure - when to be worried
what kind of pressure fluctuation should you begin to worry about pump failure?
When cold it sits about 55psi (give or take) after warm up it will remain at 55 while driving but then settle at 33/35 at idle.
Did any of you who put on the larger better filter notice a delay (2 secs maybe) in gauge response? Before going with the larger better purolater, pressure was immediate. Level seems fine, maybe a hair below full but no where near the add line.
I plan on adding an after market gauge for accurate readings here in the next few months.
Tia.
edit: i see in the durango forum fluctuation with RPM's is normal. I'm guessing it will be the same in the Ram. Never noticed it in any of our other cars/past or present. But it's been nearly 15 years since I owned a V8...so maybe it did and I just never noticed.

normal, nothing to worry about.
i put on the larger filter, but i haven't paid any attention to when the pressure comes up.
mine used to fluctuate from a little over 40 at rpm to a little under at idle. so i used a gunk brand engine flush to clean things up. now it sits under 40 all the time. lol.

my dads v6 dakota would go down to like 10 or 15 when idleing hot, he used some gunk motor flush and changed his oil after driving it 5 or 6 miles and it went way up, back to 30-35 when idleing hot, that was over a year ago and it still runs good with no metal shavings in the oil or knocking so i guess you could go that low, i wouldnt want it that low again though
mine stays at just under 40 at warm idle and over 40 driving down the road, warm or cold
we have a truck (3406 CAT) that idles at 35 to 40 warm and dead nuts 60 going down the road, our KWs run about 18 to 20 warm idle and about 40/50 on the road

yeah ive been meaning to touch on this
my 318 when cold will sit at like 40 then once warmed up at idle it will get into the single digits almost 0 going down the road its about the same maybe 15 at most
could this be the oil pressure sensor cause my motor is quiet has no tick warm or cold and runs like a champ ?
help plz

mines at 55-60 when running, and when i go to slow down she drops to about 40, and then goes to 45 for idle. and she runs great....unless its bottoming out or getting REAL low, then i wouldnt worry about it.
