Exclamation odo problem

Ok thanks for all the help but i meant to say earlier i am positive its not the trip odo. Ok so i tried the remove the battery and the remove the pcm clips and rehook the battery and it did not restore the mileage. but every time i remove the battery the odo resets itself back to exactly 905 and the trip odo goes to zero. Yes it is a digital odo. I am totally lost on what to do? any more suggestions? Thanks

Sell it? Lmao.

You might have to go to the dealership with this one. I'd imagine they would just reprogram it. However, if they would want to charge you, I personally would just leave it alone unless you were to (honestly) sell it. It's not going to really hurt anything if you know how many miles are actually on it.

Default odo problem

unfortunally thats just a close guess and i would not mind cuz i could just add the mileage on but no matter how briefly i unhook the battery the odo goes right back to 905 so ill just call the dealer and hope they dont close my bank account!!

ok, a few things you need to know before you do anything.

on your 99, and all the others with digital odometer, the mileage is stored in 2 places. its in the PCM, and its also in the Cluster. The display you are looking at is the cluster. You can't see the mileage in the PCM w/o a scanner tool.

Now, your reset has NOTHING to do with the PCM, so don't go there. the reset is occuring within the cluster, and it may or may not be going out, but its certainly lost some kind of permanent memory.

When you call the dealer, you are going to find out that the only "official" fix is for them to sell you a new cluster, at the low price off.....

....

keep going...

.....

about $1000. well, maybe 750.

why so high you might wonder ?

because - by federal law (maybe, it sounds good anyway) - your friendly, local, trustworthy dealership is NOT provided the tools to reset the odometer.

why not ? haha, because they're not so trustworthy.

so here's what happens.
you agree to pay an arm and a leg.
they hook up a scanner, and read the mileage from the Cluster and PCM. They send that to Chrysler, signed in blood. Chrysler programs in the mileage in some secret manner to the cluster, issues some official looking paperwork, and sends it all to the dealer.

If I was you, i'd be on the lookout for a 99 Cluster on ebay with the approximate mileage that yours had. make sure it matches gas/diesel, auto/manual, MPH/KmPH. try to pay $25-75. Other years may fit. ebay parts is pretty good about listing the range. MAKE SURE you know what the odometer in the cluster reads before you buy it.

Can you do a DIY on setting back your odo? I'm interested in doing this myself and selling it right away. I'm on my way outside to disconnect my battery right now!

I got nothin! I would agree with dhvaughan and get a used cluster. This may be an apples to oranges comparison but my buddy with a Ford blew a fuse and the mileage never got recorded to the cluster. He had it in for service and they were like "why is your mileage low". The pcm had the correct mileage!

Are you serious?!?!

You would be breaking a federal law by doing this and spending time in jail.
