R/T Heads on their way!
After a week of being on the fence, (rebuild heads or get the R/T's) the choice is clear... the R/T's are ordered and should be here next week. Come to find out that the local shops dont have them and/or cant get them to rebuild. So they are on their way!!!
I should have everything to start by either 4/29 or 5/6 ooo baby! cant wait.
I love it when I can mod an engine on my own time... but I hate it when i have to fix something to get to work the next day!!! that sucks!
so for anyone who is interested... this is what's being done.
1) new timing chain
2) new water pump
3) new plenum gasket (APS plate)
4) the new R/T heads
5) Crower 1.7 RR's
anyone asking for performance gains... I'm down a significant amount of HP because I believe I have a cracked head if not both. I have an intermittant miss and I'm loosing water. so with that said, I'll be happy to get back to square 1. btw, my mpg is averaging about 13.5 these days... funny thing is that is better than when everything was good (probably due to an extremly heavy right foot lol)...

they are from a much better casting and wont crack like the ones on there now. they also flow much better than the stock castings. ever notice how your motor doesnt breath well on upper rpm's? this is one of the reasons why, the other is the intake manifold which you already know about.
what I'm curious to see is how it will affect my mpg under "normal" driving. I'm getting mid 13's right now and my truck cant get out of it's own way (slight exaduration but it is way down on power right now).
Did you get the TB done yet?

I don't think my truck has seen anything above 3,000 rpm in at least 3 or 4 months.
It's a flat out work truck.
The TB I got off Ebay hasn't shown up yet. He said he'd ship it Friday, and he only lives 100 miles from me. It better be here today. I've got a line on an intake manifold with TB, injectors, and fuel rails still bolted to it. It's off a '96, so I don't think it'll work on mine... But if I get it I'm gonna mod the TB and manifold, and re-sell it.

For some good HP upgrades on our trucks check out the article that 4Wheel and Off road just did on a ram 4x4. They got some good power out of it with some pretty good mods. They talked about using the R/T heads and some other really good things.
Yeah their website is www.4wheeloffroad.com Once you are on the site on the right of the screen you will see a magazine cover click on it and it will take you to this months edition. once there scroll down to the part that says MOPOWER part 2. This is the article i was talking about.
