Just go to your local muffler shop and talk to them, some will tell you they have to put a cat back on if they take it off.
If so go down the street and cut it off then drive back over and have them put on a muffler and dump it if your looking for cheap.

Will removing the cat cause any unwanted issues with the engine and the way it runs (check eng. lights etc.)? My muffler is in poooooor condition and I'm gonna have to replace it. I was thinking of doing away with the cat for performance and maybe more mpg's.

you can't get much cheaper than a glass pack for a muffler replacement. 25$ for the glass pack and 5$ for two clamps. then you just need to borrow a sawzall to cut off your old one.

I get a code P0420 (hehe) every so often, because of my hollow cat. It'll come on for a couple weeks then go out again... Yours will most likely do it too. There's a fix that moves the O2 sensor out of the direct exhaust stream that is supposed to stop it though.

Not at all someone said it would work so before I did my exhaust I drove around for a month with an exhaust leak just to make sure.
I would think if it ever would throw a code it would do it by now had the exhaust put in over 5,000 miles ago close to 10k
here is a pic never even trimmed the zip tie
