Erratic Fuel Gauge, Quick Fix!
If your fuel gauge is improperly showing the amount of fuel in your tank, there are 2 well known writeups on this.
Here...http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/fuel_sender/sender.htm and
Here...http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/fuel...sender-diy.htm
However, my '96 SLT had a slightly different float/resistor mechanism and as such, I could not modify it the way these guys did. My float arm pivot point had gotten loose over the years and was not touching the variable resistor with enough force to register enough ohms for the gauge. That being said, the fix is simple.
Pull the sender out of the tank and remove the float arm from the mechanism. At this point, you will see 2 thin metal strips attached to the float arm that rub on the variable resistor. Simply (very gently mind you) bend the thin metal arms downward (away from the swing arm) and reinstall. Doing this will ensure that the metal strips contact the variable resistor through-out the whole length of travel.
Total time = 4 hours (longest part is dropping the tank...not hard, just takes a while)
UPDATE: After 4 days its working like a charm and it cost a whopping $0!!!!!!!
