You are smart to keep all of your options open. I guess my point in all of this is that you need the proper tool for the job. The 1500, although a fine truck is rated for light duty. Going to home depot and loading up 20 bags of quikcrete...check. Towing a 4 ton trailer.....er...no. For that you need a heavy duty truck. Stronger suspension, better cooling systems, more low end torque, bigger brakes are just a few of the reasons to upgrade if you tow on a regular basis. I like to err on the side of safety, so I want my tow vehicle to have a safety factor of at least 20%.
