I appologize if this is not in correct place however i have hit a problem which has stumped many and would like help from anyone. Please let me know if i need to move anything or post elsewhere.

I have a 98 ram 1500 4x5 5.9L Quad Short that giving me a ton of probs.

I replace TPS and IAC and what happening is its starts and runs great. Idles to 700 after temp stables in cold weather however if i tap gas the IAC keeps throttle at that rpm. To return to idel i must either shut off and restart or keep pumping throttle untill it returns to idle. I had a mechanic hook to with snapon solus and its showing that the computer is telling iac to open. I also have the wonderful +-200rpm bounce when accelerating.(i though was trans problem). We let truck run and idle uout, unpluged iac and now all pulsing and everythings gone but obviously the CIL and rough starts are here. Any help to fix is appreciated.

So, after you hit the throttle at idle, it will never go back down, it will just stay there?

 

yes, if i slightly push gas, it will immediatly jump to 2k rpm and then if i punch gas sometimes its sticks at 3500 but if i keep pumping it will eventually close iac and idle at 700rpm. what confusing me is with the scan tool its saying that the computer is send that signal to open but i have no idea why it would keep it that high and drop it after punching gas. i have foun only one vaccum leak in cyl 2 injector seal but have a hard time believing that could cause such problem. also for reference new batt. all new wire connections and power all check out fine. to me makes no sense

 

But it still goes back to idle, correct. If so, this is normal.

 

it will go back to idle but not immediatly. Only if i shutoff or pump throttle till it does. It got stuck at 3500rpm for 3mins i pumped gas reved to 5k back to 3500 kept pumping gas but never went below 3500rpm. was forced to cut key and restart.

 

Okay, thats not normal!!!

On my truck, I can tap the gas peddle and the truck will raise RPMs for a couple seconds and then go back to idle.

 

my problem is it will not return. i got stuck doing 95mph not by choice before using neutral and cutting key to stop. I hit brakes but engines reved up high wanting to roll. boggs a lot but if i let off brake slowly returns to speed. I cant drive truck at moment or if i do its 35mph, 65mph, 95mph by manually selecting gear. after unpluging IAC it drives with no probs but just rough on cold start. once warm its fine

 

have you tried following the throttle cable to see if it snagging on something?

 

sry sorta miss understood last post, few beers down lil frustrated...but yea its crazy im scared to drive pluged in. i have a rear freeze plug leak im fixing in next few weeks but this is scaring me. i just did plenum/intaks man gaskets and complete tune up and problem pesists but engine revs even higher after i cleaned gunk outa iac throttle hole. it was bad horrible oil leak but alls clean now but old problems now worse

 

yea im actually reving from moslty from under hood in park. im watching in TB the iac open when i flip butterflys but when they close it stays. if i keep flipping sometimes ill get lucky and see it push in and idle to 700rpm. i though it was aicv bad but replaced with new and same exact thing. as above somehow cpus telling it to open on scanner but i dont know what would tell a cpu to open it. thank guys btw for all help its been a long harsh few days. pulled apart sat and havent been able to rest no issues since.
