Default Transmission about to go...

Damn. Tranny has been giving me problems lately. Been slipping and blowing the rear seal, then just recently started to shake and sound like it is grinding when reversing. Took it to a transmission shop, and they quoted me $1900 for a rebuild! JESUS! I said hell no and walked out. Been searching around all day and found a transmission mechanic who will do it at his home after work for a few days. He said he would drop the tranny, rebuild it using high performance/towing parts, and install a shift kit, then reinstall the tranny. All for about $700, then an additional $100 or so for the high performance parts, and I provide the shift kit. About 4 days of work. Sounds great but horribly bad timing. Starting a turnaround Monday and it may last until April...

Does this sound like a good deal? And I'm going to research for shift kits unless somebody would like to chime in and provide the kit I should get. Transgo I presume...

Edit: He also provides a 3 year warranty.

Depends on how well you know this person. I say if you know him, do it. If not find another way.

I'd like to know how someone that is doing the work at his house is actually gonna provide an warranty. Seems a little odd to me.

I was thinking about what I said and I might have gotten mixed up. I've been calling around all day so I probably did get mixed up. If he did provide a warranty then I'm sure he runs a shop. I'm going to call later and discuss with him and I'll find out for sure
