ORIGINAL: hnighthawk2000

the story i heard is they did get it fixed for the 2000 model year. i have a 2000 with 115k on it, without a blip. i have towed a trailer a couple of times, but most of my miles are in commuter traffic here in atlanta, a real tough environment for an automatic. i couldn't be more pleased with mine. I should add that it does get a fluid and filter change every year, whether mileage warrants it or not, and that it is electronically controlled, so there are no adjustments or bands to wear out, so i'm told by the dealer.
This seems to be a crap shoot. For every person who had one blow up you find one like hnighthawk2000 with no trouble.

I've put 40k on my truck and it's still working good, however I did have one of 2 sensors go bad (replaced both) which fixed a funny shifting problem. the fluid looked good...

I totaly agree. My dad had a 97 Ram with 240k on it. Drove it every day durring the week and towed a 30 foot camper on the weekends. Never had a single problem with it. I have a friend with a 97 with 78K on it and a blown tranny. Makes no sence to me. I have a 2001 ram with a lift and 35s, and I'm going to tow with it. Guess I better cross my fingers.

Fingers crossed........?? With 35's AND towing you better be PRAYING, not just crossing fingers.

Or you can change the fluid, adjust the bands, install an aftermarket cooler and hopefully not worry about it. All of the people that I have talked to in the dealership I worked at had no idea that the bands had to be adjusted or the fluid changed. They just put it in drive and go. Routine mainenance people, routine maintenance. On the flip side, I have seen a few trannies being prematurely rebuilt even with maintenance. Maybe about a 20:1 no maintenance to maintenance with tranny rebuilds. Just my eperience and .02
