front driveshaft u joint replacement
I looked at the online writeup for this on the pavement sucks site. The problem I have is that I called the dealer to price new u joints, but he said that it was "unserviceable" and could only give me a price on the front driveshaft assembly? I found this hard to believe, but according to him, the 94 you could get parts for, but the 95 changed???? Any help? Should I just go aftermarket? I only called the dealer since I looked under the truck the other night, and they appeared to be factory u joints, so they held up well with 284,000Km on them. Maybe I'll just price out some precisions or something.
It is getting harder and harder to get parts from the dealer now. They are discontinuing more items. You can get the u-joints from a parts store and do it yourself. I want to say the front joint you can replace but the rear two they won't touch seperately and only sell as a complete unit. Just get some Spicer units, pull the whole thing, and replace them all.
Yeah, I ended up calling a parts store later on today, and they have u joints for $24/piece. I was just hoping I could get factory originals, as they came with spicers didn't they? None of the parts stores in canada seem to be able to get spicers, its all precision or some other name.
I picked up some precision greasable u joints today at a parts store in town. $21 a piece. I'm heading out to install them tonight. Let you know how it goes :P

Wow, Just picked up the same thing to do mine tomorrow, forgot to get the ball joint. Having fun in the snow today heard that dreaded squeal while in four wheel drive
and no sounds from the front when back in 2WD.
Also hoping that is all it is, they are original parts

Well I got the drive shaft out of the truck no problems. Pressed the U joint caps out with a bit of effort, cleaned out the clip grooves really nicely and got the first joint installed. Only problem was, a couple of the clips didn't seem to fit in right. Okay, I thought the cap wasn't pressed in enough, so I pressed it in ever so slightly while watching where the groove was. Once everything was together, the joint was rock solid! It won't move freely like it should. I called it quits at this point since I didn't pick up one of those bearings either, and would like to replace it after seeing the condition of it.
