Default jumped backwards wont stay running

i have a 1998 dodge ram and i was nice and have a car a jump with it. i hooked the cables up while my truck was idling and tim second i hooked up the positive wire to the other car my truck died and suddenly my battery was dead i later came to find out the other car had replacement terminals on that show red and black and they had the colored terminals installed on the battery wires i shall say backwards. they had red on the negative black on the positive so i ran backwards current once i hooked up my truck died instantly and my battery went dead. after getting someone to jump my truck my check gauges light was on and voltage gauge showed nothing idled it for 5 minutes and battery died. all fuses are good did i fry my computer or wiring or just my alternater or whatever that black rectangle box behind alternater that has the wires coming out or did i blow a hidden fusible link somewhere. i need some help on this please.

if you know for sure that your battery has juice id look into the alternator. could have fried that.

They are easy to get off and most auto parts stores can check them, but dont always take there word for it. get the new one and keep the old one so if thats not the problem you can return it.

I took mine in to get it tested, they told me it was good but i got a new one and now have no issues

Your altanator is cooked. my cousin jumped off his wife's car with my BMW once and he crossed the jumper cables and fried out my altanator and the one on his wifes car, it's not too hard or expensive to fix

Couldn tell ya, it was a 91 3 series. and when i checked he had her positive on her negitive and her negitive on her positive and mine wouldnt start back up after i shut it down. replaced the alt and it fired right up. i dont know alot about BMW"s other than the parts are way too expensive to buy when something breaks. thats why the one i own now sits in my garage in florida.

i got the alternater tested just now and ht tested good 5 times we tested in a row.. so now what could it be.. i am going to work on ht more tonight and keep you all update. also to rule out my wire harness which colt on the alternator Hr the charge output as i would like to run a new wire from that directly to my battery and see if my gathered stuff works and charges the batteries so i can know it is in my wiring a short and not a fried computer. i think i run it from the big bolt right? or the 2 small ones on the back

Possibly the fusible link for the alternator. It's in the fuse/relay box under the hood. My bet's on that-- it's a 140 amp.

Have you put a new battery in it, if not get battery tested or borrow another battery and try that may have burnt up battery.
