'98 4x4 Dodge Ram running rough, stalling
Hi, I've been having problems with my 98 4x4 Dodge pick up. It starts up and runs fine at an idle but if I go to give it fuel it back fires like it's loosing it's fire. It'll run for 8 minutes and then shut off. If I wait 10-15 minutes it'll start right back up and do the same thing again. It shuts off every 8 minutes. Does anyone have any ideas?
you're going to need more help than i can give you, but if its backfiring back into the plenum and throttle body, then its firing out of time. this will be something related to cam position sensor in the bottom of the distributor, and/or a computer setting called fuel sync, which is set by an expensive scanner tool, not the cheap code reader.
now i'm guessing so take it with a grain of salt, but i'd guess the reason it completely shuts down has to do with ASD (auto shut down) which is when the computer senses that its not running, and cuts off the fuel pump. there's another major sensor on passenger side bell housing called crank position sensor. its critical also.
