As long as you're willing to open your wallet, it would be sweet. Mine is going to take several years to build cause it's going to be one hell of an aggressive build... that and the truck its going in won't be done anytime soon (see my avatar picture).

Seriously though, most of the power comes from the upper end of the engine, so building the lower end does no good if you aren't going to built the upper end as well. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd do cam/head work to my engine before boring/stroking it.

i respect that answer and i dnt mean this in a bad way i swear!! but thats pretty much what i said in my original post lol. 408 stroker (kit), bored 30 over. no offence just sayin.

but now seriously. would i have to buy more performance side parts. (heads, intake, exhaust, cam, comes with crank.. valve train components. ect.) i mean its gotta be a full legit performance build if i take that step??

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you said you wanted to buy a 408 and then bore IT .030 over... as in a 360 block bored .030 over twice. My bad.

i wouldn't do either, as both go too far and make the truck unsuitable for normal street driving.

^ ram07 is right. i'd do a rear locker and 4.10 or 4.56 gears front and rear, and if you've really got the bucks, add another 1000 for a selectable Ox-Lock in the front. if

Do the 408 stroker. True, theoretically displacement has nothing to do with overall horse power, head flow does, but in reality it does make a difference. If you built a 408 and 5.9 to the samed specs a 408 would make more horsepower, not much, maybe 30 or so, but it will blow the 5.9 out of the water when it comes to torque. It will have more overall and it will be at a more useable RPM, which is what you want with a lifted big tired 4x4 that you take mud bogging. When you're in 6"'s of mud and you start lugging that engine down you want low end torque which a 408 will give you in spades. For example, a 5.2 and 5.9 have the same heads, cam, intake, exhaust etc and (depending on year) the 5.9 has about 20-30 more HP and 30-40 ft lbs more torque. Another example is the 440 and 383 big block. Same cam, heads, exhaust etc and the 440 has the 383 covered by 40 hp and 55 ft lbs. You won't regret a 408 (or a 426 kit from hughes). Just to add something interesting, you can build the small block up to 501 cubic inches, there's a guy on moparts who is building one.
