when the plenum gasket would fail, dodges answer was to just retard the timing to get rid of the pinging, this was done by reflashing the computer, if so you should have a sticker on the pcm or rad support that says authorized update

some say the 01s had it from the factory, but i havent seen proof to back that statement up

yes, looked at the pcm, saw the sticker that said software update or something like that.

ill talk to my cousin that work for dodge about getting rid of it.

alright, a programmer like sct or hypertech, etc. should get some power back

is it possible to keep the octane around 87 using programmers, gas is a $1 to a $1.10 a litre for regular.

ah ok i plan on checking out my plenum i dont know if any previous owners did but i doubt it and see if its ok or needs to be replaced

A Superchips 3815 tuner has 87 octane, towing (89 octane) and performance (91 octane) settings. With a good plenum gasket you should be able to run the 89 tune with 87 octane in the tank and be good (no spark knock).
