Question Alt. Issues.....

I got a check engine code for alt./generator curciut short but it still runs fine. Every once in a while ill start the truck and all radio presets will be default... It never really dies tho. Rpms have dropped pretty low before and idle kinda rough. Oil pressure is low... But is fresh oil. Are these symptoms of the short? I checked all the wiring connections to the alt. But nothing looks loose..... Any ideas?

Check the output at the battery [while running] with a multimeter.
If its 14v it is doing its job correctly, much lower or higher you have a problem that needs to be fixed before you're left high n dry in the middle of the road.

just be aware that the voltage regulator is integrated in the PCM and if you connect/disconnect ANYTHING, do it with the battery disconnected or you'll **** up your PCM. faulty alternators can also **** up the PCM so don't try to squeeze more time out of one that' bad.
