Towards the end of the tailshaft. The transmission in the truck has it and the replacement I bought does not.

did you make the thread on the 98 tranny in a 97? if so i told you to look and make sure both had the sensor on the tailshaft.....your going to need to get the right tranny i believe, and thats for the O/D if im not mistaken

either a OD sensor or speed sensor

That is the speedometer gear on a 94-97 Ram.

Forward and a little lower than the sensor that is labeled in this photo. You can only see part of it here, since the cross-member is in the way. Any help would be appreciated!

That's called the output speed sensor. It's a $16 part.
