^^^^^^^. That truck is not set-up for snow. You're right though, if you slide in the mud, you will slide in the snow. Probably a lot more with your rig.

I plow snow commercially at airports. Lots of young guys come in with their rigs hoping to get jobs plowing. It's a great gig. Their trucks are all the same. Beautiful rigs, nice plow without a scratch on the blade and huge tires. Most don't get the job since their trucks just won't cut it. Wet snow is the worst when it comes to plowing with wide tires since the blade sticks often and the tires break free and spin.

In snow areas, tires are the main feature, not sandbags, to driving safely. Sandbags do help but they are mainly helping the guys with wide tires which are not designed or meant for snow. A lot of guys think, the wider the tire the more rubber on the roads. Not so in snow. Pounds per square inch on a narrow tire either cuts through the snow or compresses it allowing you more traction. On sand and to a degree, mud, the opposite it true.

Weight does help over the axles but you must be careful as to how much weight and the type of driving. Winding roads, with weight placed back by the tailgate is very dangerous. It will actually pull the ***-end around. Keep the weight to a minimum and over the axles.

It dosen't snow much here(this year it has)but, when it does, I run 20-25 p.s.i. in my tires, and shovel a good bit of snow in the bed. I also stay home, if possible. There's alot of wrecks here(mostly rear end collisions)when it snows. Folks here think just because they have 4wd they can drive at normal speeds,20-25 mph is top speed for me on slick roads.
