I can red line it no problem, but as I do and also as the rev comes down it sounds like stuff possibly flying around in the cat. As the rev came down from such a high rpm the rattles continued and slowed as the rev came down to idle.

You can check the codes yourself by turning the key on and off three times, ending in the on position. The codes will show where the mileage usually is. It'll read something like "P0304." You might have more than one.
I have tried this and it did not seem to work for me.

I bet that code you're getting is a cylinder mis-fire, maybe #8.

Same here.. 2 weeks after cat replacement had to replace the upstream O2 sensor and just 2 months ago repaired the plenum with a hughes kit.. It wasn't leaking real bad but did start to have a little oil usage and more then just a slight wetness to the inside of the intake and had 2 weeks off of work for X-mas so ordered everything ahead of time and was able to take my time on the repair..

I did mine the other way around. I replaced the plenum with Hughes. Then I replaced the upstream o2 sensor then the cat with a magnaflow. I replaced the cat and the o2 sensor just because my plenum was bad and I knew that it wouldn't hurt to change them. I didn't get in a hurry though, its nice to have another vehicle to drive.

What would that have to do with the cat? I just had a complete tuneup done about 2 months ago.

Is there any other way to try an get the codes? I have tried the key trick several times and it does not work for me. If I had the code maybe I could get a better idea.

Autozone and other parts stores will read the codes for free.

Yes I know that, but like I said in my original post, the closest one is about 15-20 miles away and I am not driving it that far with what happened on the way home when this whole issue began.

Well as you stated, you are going to need to know so you can properly diagnose the problem. If the key dance does not work, then I see no other alternative other then buying a code reader.

Where the hell did you get peanut brittle from ? lmao

Mine did the same thing. It would idle ok, but under load it would not even go 30mph, then it dropped to 5 mph in a matter of 10 min. It left me stranded.

4. If it is the cat, you can either remove/replace the cat or gut the cat (open it up, remove the insides and close it again)

good luck
