Default Tranny Problems

Last Saturday morning when i pulled into the drive way at my house i was getting ready to back up i tried to put it into reverse and it would not go like something was hung up..after disconnecting the linkage under the truck i noticed that the shifter on the column went into all the gears smooth as day..but when i connected the linkage back it would only move from Neutral to drive?!? Has anyone else had this problem? I've just got the truck from my brother in law...But that friday night it would slide right into gear from Park all the way down to 2nd...is there a fix for this? if sooo please help i think i've tried everything?!?!?!?

Drop the pan and look for pieces of metal. It sounds like something got jammed up.

First you say it will only move from neutral to drive, then you say it "slides" from park all the way down to 2nd.
Whichever it is, sounds like something is toast.
