Size of T-Case Filler
I am looking to see if anyone know the exact size of the allen wrench that is used to remove the t-case filler and drain? I want to get the socket version at the auto parts store tomorrow.
yep.
if the the plug is not very tight, you MIGHT get by with a 3/8, but it will do a nice job of ROUNDING OUT the plug if you put a lot of pressure on it.
if you don't have a 10mm, use a bolt head. stack some nuts on it to get ahold of it.

Ok so I bought the 10mm allen but this thing is tight.... It looks like it just hasn't been un-done in a while. I assume heat on this is not a good idea.. I just don;t want to crack the cast aluminum.
My thought is to see if my father in law has a 10mm allen socket.. Try that if that fails try a impact screw driver with the socket?

i think you can apply a LITTLE heat to the case area around the plug. don't get carried away.
as long as you've got a 10mm that fits in there nice and tight, you could put a small pipe on the hex wrench for a little more leverage.

/yeah the one I have is on one of those jack knife style allen wrench sets, I am about to head out and get a socket one I hope at my in laws. If i had a extention with a ratchet I bet i could get it, otherwise the cheater bar will make it happen with the ratchet thanks for the reply! Skid plate is right where I don;t need it for this job.
I thought you were going to get the socket type when you said that you planned on getting an individual 10mm allen. The regular L shaped allen and the jack knife style is a pain with those plugs.
The hardware store near by only had the jack knife style in 10mm. I will be going to Napa tomorrow to get the 10mm socket type. My father in law only had a 3/8 one... So tomorrow is another day......
