Default 96 Dodge ram is sick! Help

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and got a feeling I will be hanging out here a lot. Ok about a year ago my truck started dying every now and then when I would pull up to a stop sign or just let off the gas to slow it down and it would die. There is no service engine soon light on. basically if u go out there and started it up, it will sit there and lope for like 2 minutes like it's got a .600 cam in it , then u here the motor just start sucking a crap load of air through the fuel injection and it idles up really high for about 10 secs and then it idles back down to where it's supposed to be.But when u take off driving and u let off the gas sometimes it just dies on ya espicially if your going through town or not going very fast. And one other thing, sometimes you will take off down the road and it will just start spitting sputtering and not wanting to go, and I have to mash the throttle to the floor until it cleans itself out and runs. I know it's nothing with the air cleaner b/c I've tried everything. I even broke down and took it to a mechanic and he couldn't find the problem ( I'm pretty sure he was an idiot)! The truck is a 96 Dodge Ram 1500, 318, Automatic, 4wd. Anybody have any suggestions.

yes, 1st off check the codes. if there is one, it may not turn on the CE light depending on the code. 2nd, this sounds almost exactly like a problem I had recently. my problem was the fuse to the o2 sensor heaters was blown and it was throwing a heater circuit failure code. Depending on your year (need more model details in posts like yours above) you might have 1 o2 sensor or you might have 4. this is where I'd start... check the wiring on the o2's, make sure the TB is clean, IAC's have been known to cause idling problems but your's sounds like more than that.

HTH... post back what you find...

Honestly, before you start goin through codes and all sorts of stuff, dump a bottle of "good" feul injector cleaner and fill your tank with high octane gas. It may or may not fix the problem, but if it does fix it it's and inexpensive fix. It sounds like a clogged injector to me

Other than codes it could be the fuel filter or fuel pressure regulator. Then stalling out could be the oil pressure could be really low check on it. And it could be the fuel injectors.
